Why tailored security is the way forward

In the ever-evolving landscape of security challenges, businesses across the UK face an ever-increasing range of evolving threats – from public incidents to burglaries and even acts of terrorism. With over 600,000 reported crimes and 100,000 burglaries against businesses each year in the UK, it’s imperative that organisations adapt to these shifting security dynamics.

Many businesses bolster their security with off-the-shelf solutions like doors, entrance controls, and security screens, which can improve basic security and worker confidence. However, safeguarding your staff, premises, and assets often requires a customised approach tailored to your needs.

Every business is different. So, only when you have carefully considered your strengths, vulnerabilities, and business objectives can you implement security that goes beyond generic solutions. Audit your business, identify weak spots in your physical infrastructure and cyber security, and look for technologies and solutions that complement your existing security.

Physical and cyber markets surging, driven by changing demands and threats

This shift in threat vectors is driving up the value of the physical and cyber security markets. According to Mordor Intelligence, the global enterprise cyber market is expected to grow from $182.8 billion in 2023 to $314.2 billion billion by 2028 – a CAGR of 11.4%. Those figures represent a market that is surging after the global pandemic dampened demand.

The growing trend for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and the Internet of Things (IoT) mean organisations are increasingly choosing to deploy security solutions that are tailored to control and trace data and threats across multiple systems and devices.

In the UK, the cybersecurity services market size in the UK is valued at $14.24 billion in 2023, which is expected to reach USD 23.37 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 10.42%.

“The [UK] market is growing due to the increased rate of cybercrimes and the focus on developing new solutions to tackle them. With the growing 5G and total fibre broadband networks in the country, the government, in collaboration with telecommunication companies, is taking initiatives to tackle cyberattacks and improve security standards and practices across the UK telecom sector,” said the report.

The physical security is also set for a period of concerted growth. A report from MarketsAndMarkets forecasts the global market will grow in value from £110.2 billion to £136.9 billion, at a CAGR of 4.4%.

The driver, it says, is a rise in instances of malicious activities and security breaches to physical systems, while it highlights an opportunity for the integration of technologies such as AI, ML, and data analytics in physical security.

Another report from Allied Market Research pegs the potential value of the physical security market in 2030 at $192.9 billion, at a CAGR of 6.5%.

The significance of tailored security

The forecasts are made up of generic security solutions and tailored security. Standard security solutions, while readily available, may not always be the best fit for your unique circumstances. Here’s why opting for a customised security solution is crucial in today’s business environment:

Cost-effectiveness: Generic products might be cheaper as an initial investment, but tailored security solutions can often be more cost-effective in the long run by avoiding unnecessary expenditures, optimising resource allocation, and minimising the potential financial repercussions of security breaches.

Risk assessment: A thorough risk assessment is crucial to finding the right security solutions for your organisation. It involves thoroughly examining your business’s unique risk profile, including location, industry, and past security incidents. This approach ensures precision in resource allocation, effective mitigation of specific vulnerabilities, and compliance with industry regulations.

Address specific needs: Every business has its distinct risks and vulnerabilities. A personalised security solution ensures a thorough assessment of these risks, resulting in strategies and measures precisely designed to mitigate them. Understanding these unique challenges and working with a business that understands them will help deliver the most effective and efficient security measures to protect employees, assets, and operations.

Employee training: Tailored security solutions often incorporate comprehensive employee training and awareness programmes. These initiatives equip your workforce with the skills and knowledge to identify and respond to security threats and foster a culture of vigilance and responsibility.

Compliance: Different industries and client risk profiles have specific safety regulations and standards. A tailored security solution ensures compliance with these requirements, helping businesses avoid legal and financial repercussions.

Response planning: Customised security solutions are often designed with security response plans, tailored to the unique risk profile of your business and outline specific, step-by-step actions to be taken in the event of security breaches. With a detailed response strategy, companies can minimise the potential damage from security incidents and streamline their recovery processes, ensuring business continuity.

Effectiveness: While generic security solutions may provide a basic level of protection, they often fall short when addressing specific vulnerabilities. Personalised security solutions excel in precisely identifying and mitigating these identified risks.

Integrations: Recognising that many businesses already have established security systems and infrastructure in place, customised solutions prioritise seamless integration. Our approach considers your existing security framework, smoothly integrating new measures without causing disruptions to your ongoing operations.

Scalability: In today’s dynamic business landscape, change is a constant. A bespoke security solution is not just about addressing current needs; it’s also about preparing for the future. Customised security solutions offer scalability and adaptability, ensuring they can grow and evolve alongside your business.
